A.K.A. LONG ZAI JIANG HU

Legacy of Rage (directed by Ronnie Yu of Bride with White Hair fame) is Brandon Lee's only Hong Kong movie. A very young-looking Brandon is framed for murder by his "friend" Michael and sent to prison for 8 years. After she is almost raped by Michael his pregnant girlfriend leaves with the kindly Mr Wong (I think that's his name!) Brandon makes a friend in prison with whom he meets up outside once he is also released. (Looking as though he hasn't aged a day!) Michael's henchmen kidnap his girlfriend and son, and later kill Mr Wong. Together Brandon and his friend attack Michael and his men in a well-choreographed sequence at the end.

This movie is endlessly better than 1990's Laser Mission and the silly but enjoyable Showdown in Little Tokyo (1991). Unfortunately, since it was made in Cantonese, it is dubbed. I don't know if a subtitled version is available. I think Brandon seems a bit more at home in front of the camera in non-action scenes in this one than in Rapid Fire (1992). In one scene he even gets to beat up Bolo Yeung, who was in his father's Enter the Dragon. There isn't much martial arts in this one, it is mostly gun fu. I definitely recommend it though, both to watch and to buy. Brandon was nominated for a Hong Kong Film Award as Best New Performer for his role.
